Grade 316L is very similar to 316 stainless steel. It is still considered a molybdenum-containing grade and has properties that make it highly resistant to corrosion degradation. Grade 316L stainless differs from 316 in that it has a lower carbon content. The reduced carbon content in this stainless steel makes this grade immune to sensitization or grain boundary carbide precipitation. Because of this unique property, Grade 316L steel is often used in large gauge welding applications. Additionally, the lower carbon content makes this grade easier to process. Like 316 stainless steel, 316L is very hard due to its austenitic structure, even at the most extreme temperatures. 316L stainless steel is mainly used in external materials, pipes, heat exchangers, food industry, chemical industry, watch industry and other industries in the sea area.
